Banquet of Life and New Beginnings
Thursday, September 6, 2012 ALC hosted our 8th annual Banquet of Life fundraising dinner at Claudia Sanders. It was a glorious evening of fellowship, complete with a buffet dinner, client testimony, keynote speaker, and an exciting unveiling of our new building and future plans.
Approximately 250 guests were in attendance. This was a time to personally greet and thank our faithful partners, board members, staff, volunteers and babysitters. Our client speaker, Gretchen Davis, encouraged us in our ministry of walking alongside someone facing an unplanned pregnancy. She spoke of the fact that if it weren’t for ALC being supportive and encouraging to her, her little son would never have been born.
Our keynote speaker, Angela Minter, is director of Sisters for Life, which is a pro life and mentoring ministry in downtown Louisville. She candidly spoke of a past that would have been much different if a pregnancy resource center, such as ALC, would have been around.
With an event of this size, we rely not only on the Lord, but also our Banquet Sponsors. What a gift they are to ALC! See their names below. God bless them for their generosity to this ministry.
The Lord blessed our event in so many ways, including donations and pledges totaling over $60,000!! We were also blessed with an amazing and generous offer of a $20,000 matching grant from an anonymous donor towards the purchase of an ultrasound machine! We will rely again on the Lord and our faithful partners to raise an additional $20,000 to match this grant.
Our MC for the evening, Larry Roach, masterfully presented the tragic state of affairs today regarding abortion statistics. He had a large glass jar full of over 3,000 brightly colored M&M candies which represented the number of abortions yearly in Louisville alone. It also represents the approximate number of babies who are killed EVERY DAY in our nation.
Larry’s power point presentation thrilled our guests with photos of our new building space at 711 Henry Clay Street. As with everything we have been blessed to accomplish so far, our motto is “Excellence without Extravagance”. That famous quote from Bob Russell has been our motto all along, especially with this new building. We will literally have twice the square footage to accomplish twice the amount of ministry! Also in that new space is a room to perform limited ultrasound services. Becoming a licensed medical clinic is in our future plans, as the Lord continues to guide and provide the resources, staff, and volunteers.
Move in date is estimated to be the first part of October, and an Open House event will soon follow. Our mailing address will be P.O. Box 1575, Shelbyville, KY 40066. Our phone numbers and email addresses will remain the same.
We praise the Lord and thank our faithful friends for making this dream come true!
Walmart Wish List
Many of our kind partners have expressed interest in providing some of the items we will need in our new space. Doesn’t that just sound like our wonderful partners?!!! We are so grateful for that type of generosity and outreach. To assist in that process, we thought it would be helpful to create a Wish List from Walmart. If you are interested, please go to www.walmart.com. then click on Registry, then Wish List. Enter “Jan Antos” to access the wish list. Thank you for continuing to allow God to use YOU to bless US!!
